On 26 January 2026, the Rotary Peace Center was inaugurated at Symbiosis International University (SIU), marking a significant milestone for the university and the region. The center is the 8th Rotary Peace Center globally, the first in South Asia, and the first in India, with SIU selected through a rigorous evaluation process among leading universities across Asia, reflecting its academic standing and institutional capabilities.
The inauguration also included the unveiling of Peace Poles at the Lavale Campus and S.B. Road Campus, symbolizing a commitment to peacebuilding, dialogue, and international understanding.
Visit of Rotary Delegation to SUHRC

A global delegation of Rotarians visited the Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre on 26 January 2026. During the visit, Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Provost, SIU, shared Symbiosis’ journey with Rotary Club leaders, highlighting its work across water security, healthcare access, digital literacy, and mental health—initiatives that have impacted over 100,000 lives through integrated community programs.

Inauguration of Rotary Peace Center at Symbiosis International University Lavale Campus

Symbiosis International University has been selected to establish the ‘Rotary Peace Centre’. This is the first Rotary Peace Centre in South Asia and the eighth in the World. The inauguration of the Rotary Peace Center was held at the University’s Lavale, Pune campus on Monday, January 26, 2026. This landmark initiative marks reinforcing India’s growing role in global peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.
The prestigious event was inaugurated by Mr. Holger Knaack, Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation, and Mr. Francesco Arezzo, President of Rotary International. The ceremony was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, Founder & President of Symbiosis and Chancellor of SIU. The Rotary Peace Center at Symbiosis International University will serve as a hub for academic excellence, leadership training, and research in peace studies, conflict resolution, and sustainable development. It is expected to nurture future peacebuilders and strengthen regional as well as global collaboration on humanitarian and social impact initiatives.
